Trillian 3.1 Beta is out and better than ever. Here are just a few key featuers that caught my attention:
Hi all,
Following the recent security incident on jabberstudio.org, I did a code review on the jabberd2 source to ensure that no unauthorised changes had been made.
Rob Norris provided md5 sums for jabberd 2.0s1 - 2.0s3. The 2.0s3 release on jabberstudio was verified to check that the md5 sum corresponded to that provided by Rob, and releases 2.0s4, 2.0s5, 2.0s6, and the cvs snapshot jabberd-2.0cvs20050119 were then checked.
For each release increment (2.0s3 > 2.0s4, etc.), the original source was extracted, patches known to have been checked into CVS were applied, and the resulting source compared to the next version. Build-related files were excluded from this comparison, as these changed in some cases because of external factors like different versions of build tools. Files excluded from the comparison were:
ChangeLog, README, aclocal.m4, configure, configure.in, install-sh, ltmain.sh, Makefile.am, config.h.in, Makefile.in
The patches applied to check the source changes were sourced from http://www.marquard.net/jabber/ (archives), jabberd2 Bugzilla on openaether.org, and the jabberd list archive (all sources external to the affected jabberstudio.org machine).
Here are the md5s:
jabberd-2.0s1.tar.gz, 778971, d9d5de1b430c12758d613cc7882bc0b6
jabberd-2.0s2.tar.gz, 780944, 0f794b00e480a7b4c36d858d4d0095bf
jabberd-2.0s3.tar.gz, 705819, c15f8f07cb2ee499cd21c0b883b9f353
jabberd-2.0s4.tar.gz, 716819, 2682037fc177e1f3e7d7869cb3f59c1d
jabberd-2.0s5.tar.gz, 722712, f8d8acba7515e9e6233364a1a4aea467
jabberd-2.0s6.tar.gz, 724448, ca2818885e126181e002949c71603df3
jabberd-2.0cvs20050119.tar.gz, 739689, 71936dfb35aa08b245ff85fccdbf8615
Summary: the most recent jabberd2 release version (2.0s6) and v2_0 cvs snapshot (jabberd-2.0cvs20050119.tar.gz) are valid and correct. jabberd2 sources were not altered at any stage in an unauthorised manner.
Cheers

VIRUS ALERT
If you receive an email entitled "Badtimes," delete it immediately.
Do not open it. Apparently this one is pretty nasty. It will not only
erase everything on your hard drive, but it will also delete anything
on disks within 20 feet of your computer.
It demagnetizes the stripes on ALL of your credit cards. It
reprograms your ATM access code, It screws up the tracking on your
VCR and uses subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you attempt
to play.
It will re-calibrate your refrigerator's coolness settings so all your
ice cream melts and your milk curdles. It will program your phone
auto dial to call only your mother-in-law's number. This virus will
mix antifreeze into your fish tank. It will drink all your beer.(For
God's sake men are you
listening?!?!) It will leave dirty socks on the coffee table when you
are expecting company.
It will replace your shampoo with Nair and your Nair with Rogaine,
all while dating your current boy/girlfriend behind your back and
billing their hotel rendezvous to your Visa card.
It will cause you to run with scissors and throw things in a way that
is only fun until someone loses an eye. It will rewrite your backup
files, changing all your active verbs to passive tense and
incorporating undetectable misspellings which grossly change the
interpretations of key sentences.
If the "Badtimes" message is opened in a Windows95/98 environment, it
will leave the toilet seat up and leave your hair dryer plugged in
dangerously close to a full bathtub. It will not only remove the
forbidden tags from your mattresses and pillows, it will also refill your
skim milk with whole milk.
**WARN AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN.**
In case you are a blonde, this IS a joke.
